Important Research Engagements

  • Directed various national and state level studies conducted by the CSDS since 1996, prominent being the National Election Study (NES) 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019, State of Democracy in South Asia, Youth Surveys and various rounds of State of the Nation Surveys. Also directed various other surveys conducted by CSDS during this period.
  • Has been a core team member of ANFREL, a Bangkok based civil society group, which works on monitoring election in Asian countries. As part of the team I have observed elections in Thailand and Cambodia on behalf of ANFREL team. I was also a member of the drafting committee which worked on drafting “Citizens Charter for Free and Fair Elections in Asia”. Recently I have also participated in workshops on issues related to free and fair elections, electoral violence organised by National Democratic Institute (NDI)
  • I was a team member of the group “Research Group on Electoral Violence in Asia Pacific countries”, a project undertaken by the UNDP, Bangkok regional office. As a team member, conducted research on Electoral Violence in India and submitted a detailed report to the UNDP.
  • Core Team Member of Asian Barometer Survey, conducted by Prof. Takashi Inoguchi, Cho University, Japan. Analysed the Data for three rounds of survey 2003, 2005, and 2007 and contributed papers based on the findings of the survey.
  • I have taught some course on research methodology for Ph. D, M Phil and Master student in some universities. For the past one decade, I have been regularly delivering lectures on Research Methodology, Survey Research, Questionnaire Design, Sampling and related topic at various Universities and Research Institutes 

Important Research Projects

  • Directed various national and state level studies conducted by the CSDS during last two decades.  Prominent among them are National Election Study (NES) 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 & 2019  and several rounds of State Assembly Election Studies (SES)
  • State of Democracy in South Asia Round I (2004-05) and Round II (2013-14) and a third round of study is ongoing National Taiwan University
  • Four Rounds of Survey based studies on Indian Youth in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) 2007, 2013, 2016 and 2021.
  • States and Citizens: Policing, welfare services and political participation among the urban poor in New Delhi, Nairobi and Durban in collaboration with Research Council of Norway.
  • A Study on MGNREGA: An Evaluation of its functioning in Rajasthan, A collaborative research by IDEA Centre at MLS University, Udaipur and Lokniti:
  • Co-Principal Investigator for the Study on Society and Politics between Election in collaboration with Azim Premji University, Bengaluru.
  • Conducted study on The Status of Policing in India (Round I & II)  in collaboration with  Common Cause, New Delhi
  • Conducted studies such as Training in Survey Research with reference to National Election Study (NES) 2009, Bihar Assembly Election 2010, Inequalities, Welfare and Democracy: Studies of Politics Policy Interface in Indian States in collaboration with ICSSR
  • Conducted a study on the None of the Above’ Option: Voter Inclination and attitudes”(2018) and a study on End line survey of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) of Citizens ( in progress) with the support of Election Commission of India.
  • Conducted studies in collaboration with Research Council of Norway MGNREGA: the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development. IGNOU, Department for International Development (DFID) New Delhi
