State Election Studies

Since 1995, Lokniti-CSDS has endeavored to study most of the Vidhan Sabha elections that take place in the country. Over the years, this database has grown tremendously to the point that we now have time-series data for all the states of India. Some of these election studies are in the form of Post Poll surveys, while some others are in the form of Pre Polls. In some other states researchers will find that multiple rounds of Trackers too were conducted before the actual election, mainly to ascertain the political shifts in the state. Together all these different instruments provide important insights into demographic details, political choices and social attitudes of the people around the time of elections.

Researchers can find the questionnaires for each of the surveys by following the links given below. Many of the questionnaires are in Hindi, so please ensure you have a Hindi font. Otherwise you can download the font and copy it into your fonts folder. A detailed account of marginals (report) for many of the surveys can also be found here.
