“Status of Policing in India Report 2020”
Third in the series of the SPIR, the 2020 study is divided into two parts, one focusing on ‘policing in disturbed areas’ and the other to understand the various aspects of ‘policing during COVID19/lockdown’.
The key objective of Part I of the study is to provide State-wise analysis of performance and perception of policing in the areas where some form of conflict, extremism, or insurgency prevails. We have shortlisted 26 districts from 11 States for Part I. In Part II, we aim to understand the challenges faced by the Police in the States that are most affected due to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic and the consequential lockdowns, as well as the experiences of the common people with the police and their perception on various aspects of policing under special and exceptional circumstances created due to COVID19. We have shortlisted 19 cities spread across 10 States for Part II. For both Part I and II, we will be surveying the Police personnel as well as the civilians, with the help of separate questionnaires. The questionnaires are ready, and we are about to begin with the fieldwork. Hopefully, we should be able to finish it in the next two months.

The book is a collection of essays written by Yadav over the past three decades covering several elements of India's democratic system. The book also touches on the theme of 'reform' and 'action' and clearly lays out what must be done to reclaim the soul of the Indian republic.
Coming at a time of heightened public discourse around the state of democracy, this book provides us an opportunity to debate and discuss the future of the Indian republic.

About the Discussion
There is an emerging consensus among the scholars that with the rise of BJP in 2014, India's second Republic is in the making, with new legislations and power-sharing arrangements fundamentally altering the old system. At the same time, the current moment also unravels the limitations of existing vocabulary to confront and explain evolving social changes. Is India undergoing a crisis in political thought? Basing the discussion mainly around Abhay Dubey’s recently released book 'Hindu Ekta Banaam Gyan ki Rajniti', this panel brings together scholars from different ideological strands to assess the nature of contemporary political discourse in India and its future implications.
