In a state which is known for Bhakti or hero worship, Sasikala has emerged as the ‘Chinamma’ of Tamil politics. Everyone is curious to see how the AIADMK functions post-Jayalaithaa.

50 days Wait is finally over

The immediate aftermath of the ‘Demonetisation exercise’ had caused much disruption to normal economic life with long queues at banks, ATMs and low demand for a number of goods and services. The Prime Minister had appealed to the masses to be patient and wait for the next fifty days by which things would return to normalcy. 31st December marked the end of that period of sacrifice by the people in the larger interests of the nation. The day was observed with a much awaited speech by the Prime Minister, in which he announced several pro-poor schemes and measures to sooth the nerves of his countrymen.

The cycle representing the Samajwadi Party seems to be splitting apart with Akhilesh Yadav hogging much of the limelight on New Year. The war in the party is quite reminiscent of the split between the Congress Syndicate and the rise of the Congress Requisionists under Indira Gandhi. In 1969, Indira Gandhi had the last laugh. Will Akhilesh be equally lucky?
