  • The Times of India reported, that starting next month, PM Narendra Modi's government will begin amassing a warehouse of virtual information collected not just from traditional sources like banks, but also from social media sites, as it looks to match residents' spending patterns with income declarations
  • The Indian Express reported that 4.12 hectares of forest land have been acquired in Chhattisgarh for a resort by Sarita Agrawal, the wife of State Minister Brijmohan Agrawal. Officials have now found that 13.9 hectares of government land was encroached upon for the project.
  • Demonetisation and the subsequent push for digitisation has escalated risks relating to cyber crime and India needs to urgently upgrade its defences by setting up a cyber security commission on the lines of the Atomic Energy and Space Commissions, reported The Times of India.
  • The Janata Dal (U), which last week broke its alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress in Bihar, will now vote for Opposition candidate for the vice-presidential poll Gopalkrishna Gandhi. JD(U) spokesperson K.C. Tyagi told The Hindu.
  • The Patna High Court dismissed two PILs challenging the formation of the new government by Nitish Kumar’s JD (U) along with the BJP, The Hindu carried a news report. After hearing all parties, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice A K Upadhyay dismissed the two PILs saying no intervention of the court is required, after floor test in the state Assembly.
