Lokniti conducted a survey based study on religiosity and secularism titled “Religious Attitudes, behavior and practices survey – 2015”. The field work for the Survey was conducted in the months of March and April 2015. More than 5500 respondents were interviewed spread across 21 states of India covering more than 70 districts. A team of 140 plus investigators conducted the fieldwork for the survey.

Some important objectives of the Study included:

  • Preparing a religiosity index of the country
  • Understanding inter religious and intra religious attitudes of the people.
  • Comprehending socio religious practices and behavior of people across religions.
  • Understanding the level of religious conservatism and liberalism prevailing in the country.
  • Interpreting the relationship between changing perception of religion/religiosity and the formations of religious communities.
  • Capturing perception about administration and management of religion based institutions and bodies.
  • Getting a cognizance of religion- state relationship and expectations of people across religion from the state.
  • Understanding the level of religious freedom prevailing in the country.
  • Getting a knowhow of the contemporary meaning of religion.
  • Comprehending changing religiosity and self-perceptions of belief, believer(s), and ritualistic aspects associated with religious practices.

  • The fieldwork and the data entry of the survey stands completed and at the moment is at the stage of data analysis.
