Lokniti Newsletter October 2014

The National Election Study 2014 (NES 2014) a survey conducted by a team of scholars all over the country and coordinated by Lokniti, Programme for Comparative Democracy at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS). While the NES gathers robust information about how Indians voted, this is not just a study of voting behaviour. The NES treats elections as a window to capture the most accurate snapshot of the political behavior, attitudes and opinion of the Indian citizens.

The study of Indian elections based on survey method conducted by CSDS started in the 1960s, and led to the first National Election Study in 1967. Since 1996 The Economic and Political Weekly has been coming out with a special issue devoted to the National Election Study. Continuing this tradition the latest Economic and Political Weekly (Vol - XLIX No. 39, September 27, 2014) has published a special section based on the NES 2014, containing articles written by the scholars of the Lokniti Network using the data of this study. In these articles the Lokniti scholars have articulated their understanding and analysis of the recently concluded Lok Sabha Election. The published articles are given below with their links.
