  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other members of the party sat on a Dharna against the Home Ministry for the inaction by Delhi Police. In a mid night raid conducted by Law minister Somnath Bharti on an alleged sex and drugs racket in South Delhi, the Delhi police refused to act on the orders of the minister. This raid turned controversial and so did the CM’s dharna. After intervention from the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, the CM called off his 32-hour dharna after the errant policemen were sent on leave.
  • Several renowned personalities including banker Meera Sanyal, journalist Ashutosh Kumar and social activist Mallika Sarabhai have joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Renowned Social Activist, Medha Patkar has also shown support for the party.
  • In forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party is planning to contest over 400 seats from 20 different states and union territories.
  • After meeting Rahul Gandhi and putting forth their demand, the Jain community has become the sixth designated minority community of India. Until now, the community was granted minority status in only eleven states.
  • Senior leader of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Arun Jaitley has said that the party is looking for clean and credible candidates for upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Party will also follow AAP’s door-to-door campaigning style.
  • Biannual poll schedule for 55 vacant seats of Rajya Sabha has been announced by Election Commission of India. These
  • elections will be held on 7th February from 16 different states such as Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh etc.
  • Former IPS officer and social activist Kiran Bedi has claimed that she would vote for BJP, though she has said that she doesn’t intend to join the party.
  • Nationalist Congress Party chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will not contest for a Lok Sabha seat but he will stand for a Rajya Sabha nomination. Further, he also said that young candidates including women should be given a chance in the Lok Sabha.
  • President Pranab Mukherjee has given assent for the Lokpal. Mr. Mukherjee has also praised the Anna Hazare’s Lokpal movement. Underlining the role of civil society, he said that civil society can also play an important role and take the lead in initiating legislation.
  • Around 40 men from the right-wing Hindu group, the Hindu Raksha Dal, attacked and vandalised the Aam Aadmi Party’s office in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad. This has been speculated to be a response to Prashant Bhusan’s remarks on Kashmir. Most political parties including the BJP condemned this incident.
  • After their immense success in the Delhi elections, the Aam Aadmi Party organised a grand rally in Amethi under the leadership of AAP leader Kumar Vishwas. It is likely that Mr. Vishwas will contest from Amethi against current MP Rahul Gandhi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
  • Senior leader and BJP President Rajnath Singh, has asserted the party’s position over article 370, saying that the party has no objection to it. He has called J & K an integral part of India and recognizes the danger and sensitivity in the region.
  • A delegation of Kashmiri Pandits met and submitted a memorandum to BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Displaced Kashmiri Pandits want Modi’s intervention in the state. After interacting with the delegation, Modi acknowledged the challenges and injustice Kashmiri Pandits are facing.
  • Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh came under immense critical attack for organising the Saifai dance mahotsav. The dance festival was attended by known Hindi film personalities and even they came under attack from the media.
  • The central government accepted before the Supreme Court of India that something went wrong in coal block allocations and that it could have been done in a better manner. The Bhartiya Janta Party demanded the resignation of P.M. Manmohan Singh in this matter. The senior BJP leader attacked the Congress party for not taking seriously the allegations of corruption.
