Lokniti, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) conducted State of the Indian Farmers study, a comprehensive nationwide examination of the conditions of the farmer’s across India to gain a nuanced insight in to their socio-economic conditions. The survey was carried out between December 2013 and January 2014, in 274 villages spread over 137 districts. The findings of the survey were released in the form of a report in the Farmer’s Forum magazine. The report was released on 11th March, 2014 at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. Ashish Bahuguna , Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture; Rajendra Singh Paroda , Chairman of the Haryana Kisan Ayog; and Ramesh Chand, Director of the National Centre for Agricultural Economics and Policy Research were the panelist of the discussion. The event was chaired by Ajay Vir Jakhar, Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj and Sanjay Kumar, Director, CSDS. The event was widely covered by various media houses (print/electronic).
