Harishwar Dayal is Lecturer in the Department of Economics at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, Jharkhand. He teaches Macro-Economic theory, Statistics and Indian Economics at the under-graduate level and supervises research work of the students registered for Ph.D. programme. Dr. Dayal is presently Member of Fiscal Policy Analysis Cell of Government of Jharkhand and is in the Editorial Board of ‘India Migration News Letter’. He is also Director of Regional Centre of Institute for Human Development.

Dr. Dayal was member of the Expert Group on ‘Prevention of Alienation of Tribal Land and its Restoration’ formed by Ministry of Rural Development under the chairmanship of Mr. B. N. Yugandhar, IAS (Retd.) and participated in preparation of its report (2000-03). He was the Coordinator of the Research Projects “Poverty and Livelihood in a Tribal Region” [Conducted by IHD, New Delhi and ACTIONAID, 1998], “Rural Migration in Jharkhand” [conducted by IHD, and Ministry of Labour, Government of India, New Delhi, 2000], “Rural Credit in Jharkhand” [Conducted by LBSNAA, Musoori and IHD Delhi, 2002] and prepared their reports. He also prepared Jharkhand State Prospective Paper on Micro-Finance through Self Help Group Movement for CARE, Jharkhand in 2003. He has recently (2006) conducted a study on “Community Participation in DPEP Districts of Jharkhand” for JEPC and UNICEF.

Dr. Dayal's research interests include Labour Economics, Tribal Issues, Sustainable Development and Human Development, Education and Poverty.
