OTHER PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

In the course of Lokniti expanding its concerns beyond elections and survey research and reaching out to non-academic audience the organisation have undertaken the following:

The independent Election Commission of India invited Lokniti to undertake 'National Election Audit 1999', the first benchmark study of election expenditure in the parliamentary elections of 1999.
Lokniti has worked with two French institutions, CERI and CSH towards creating a comprehensive information base on the social profile of the members of Legislative Assemblies since 1952.
With a Young Scholars' Summer Workshop on Democracy in July 2000 Lokniti has re-established contact with the future social scientists. The organisation would like to turn it into an annual event and have participants from all over South Asia.
Since 1999 Lokniti has held a series of Dialogues on Democracy involving political parties, non-party political formations and movement groups and other civil society organisations.
Lokniti has initiated a publication programme in Indian languages. Currently a series of volumes in Hindi on various aspects of democratic politics in under preparation.
