This project is a continuation of the work Lokniti has earlier done in collaboration with International Idea, Stockholm.
The project involves conducting an expert survey about electoral party competition in democracies and semi-democratic polities with competitive elections. It aims to examine the use of two mechanisms of accountability - accountability through policies and targeted exchange of material benefits for votes. It also aims to get a sense of expert opinion on the relative importance of other mechanisms—leadership personality, party identification, and descriptive representation—compared to policy and targeted exchange in their countries. The questionnaire will be fielded in almost 90 countries around the globe.
Funding for this project comes from three sources Duke University, Chilean Comisión Nacional de Investigación Cientifica y Tecnológica de Chile and the World Bank.
