CSDS-KAS Youth Study
On April 3rd, 2017, Lokniti, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) released the findings of their latest Youth Study in New Delhi. Titled 'Attitudes, Anxieties and Aspirations of India’s Youth: Changing Patterns', the sample survey-based Study sought to answer key questions about how India’s youth thought and lived. The survey was conducted in April-May 2016 in 19 States of India among over 6000 respondents aged 15-34 years. This Youth Study follows up on the previous Lokniti-CSDS-KAS Youth Surveys conducted in 2007 and 2011. Comparing the latest findings with those from 2007 allows the tracking of attitudinal change over a decade in which India’s youth population rose significantly, and the country went through major economic, political, socio-cultural and technological transformation. Sanjay Kumar, Director of CSDS, was the Principal Investigator of the Study. The Advisory Committee comprised of Prof. Suhas Palshikar and Prof. Sandeep Shastri. At the Report release, three experts on issues related to Indian youth discussed the findings of the Study: Professor Surinder Jodhka, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Neha Buch, CEO of Pravah, and the journalist Neha Dixit.
